Speaker 1:

Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast. I am Cheryl, your host. So you're really cranky. You haven't taken a shower in two days, your hair's a mess, it's in a bun, you got Cheetos on your shirt and you're just in a horrible mood and this could be anything. You're angry at somebody. You're in pain, not physical pain. This doesn't work as well for physical pain as it does with emotional pain. You've been crying all day, your eyes are puffy, you look like crap and you just can't seem to get yourself out of it.

Speaker 1:

I have a little technique in a moment. I'm going to have you try, but for now, understanding that sometimes it is very hard to pull ourselves from being emotionally devastated or very upset to happy and chirpy and all rainbows shooting out of our ass. I mean what the frig come on? I mean it's just almost impossible, because it's completely on the opposite end of the spectrum and there are times when I am just in a mood and there is nothing that's going to get me out of that mood not to where I would like to be, but I can raise myself up a little bit more, or I can put myself into a place of being more neutral, and I find neutral, for a lot of people, is better than being wallowing in despair with snots going down your nose, because neutral at least gives you a stepping stone to go up the emotional scale to a better feeling.

Speaker 1:

So this is what I want you to do the next time you are really struggling and you're crying or you're really angry or you're really hurt, instead of trying to step out of it, I want you to drop down into it, just drop into it. Want you to drop down into it, just drop into it. It's almost like letting yourself go and feeling what you're feeling, without trying to move away from it, without trying to push it away, just be there. And if you're thinking but Cheryl, I don't want to be there, but you're already there, so you might as well just go in. And when you go in, you're not doing anything but observing and just noticing what you're feeling, and then let it just wash over you. And then, once you've let it wash over you, if you feel as though there's still more there, then drop down lower. And I want you to keep dropping down into this, because what's going to happen is there is going to come a time, as you keep dropping down and dropping down, you're going to hit a place of stillness, of calm, of neutral, and it's going to feel cathartic and it's going to feel, okay, I'm okay right now, and that's all you're asking for is an okay right now. We're not asking again for happy unicorns and sunshines and flamingos and little bunny rabbits and teddy bears. We're just wanting to get to a place and space of okay, I'm okay right now, and at that point you're going to find yourself feeling a little bit better, and then that is when you can start to shift your energy in a different direction, or you can stay there, it is perfectly okay, and then, if you find yourself becoming emotional again, just drop down into it.

Speaker 1:

We are a society that does everything we possibly can to distract us away from every emotion we don't want to feel. When we're hurt, when we're frustrated, when we're sad, when we're heartbroken, you'll get medication, you'll get therapy, your friends will call you up. Come on, let's go out to dinner or let me come over and watch a movie with you. But sometimes we just need to go deeper. We need to hit that place of stillness because, on top of that, that is the place where we can learn about our capabilities, our resilience, and we can also become emotionally stronger.

Speaker 1:

I want you to understand something this is just an emotion. It's not going to stick around forever. Emotions, they like flow. You change your emotional state all day long. You can wake up in the morning happy as a clam and by noon you're pissed off and you want to slap someone. So just allow yourself for a few moments to go deep within and sit with whatever you're feeling, and the longer you sit with it, it is going to start to dissolve and you're going to start to feel better. All right, this was a short podcast episode. You give that a try and I will talk to you later. Take care, I thank you for listening all the way to the end of this podcast.
